It was a Blast, Amsterdam

Before I start talking about my last day here.  I have two observations from a personal perspective.   One - Who in their right mind puts a full length mirror in front of the side of the bed where you get naked to put your pjs on or get dress in the morning?  I swear it was one of those circus trick mirrors that morph what your body looks like!  It was not a pretty sight even with my glasses off!  I would see myself and say "Don't change there again!" and then later forget I'd said it. Two - When you're in the bathroom with nothing to do but sit, have you noticed how your mind starts to think about things?  European toilets are designed to be attached to an S shaped pipe that comes out of the wall!  If I moved, I would hear creaking.  It made me nervous.  I suddenly and every time after that thought "How much weight can a floaty toilet take before the pipe breaks off the wall?".  Today was a day to do laundry, look around the area I...

And the Rain Came Down - Haarlem

Image
I am writing this blog in the middle of the afternoon.  It's wonderful not to be tired and feel like I should go to bed.  I've got a radio station playing music from 1973.  It's a menu on the Smart TV in my room.  Nice to listen to old tunes!  The song Little Willy by the Sweet was playing.  My Lahr brat friends will know this song.  The next song was the Monster Mash.  It's one of my granddaughter's favourite songs.  She sings along to it.  I sure miss her! Aerial view of Haarlem. I was very fortunate to take this picture.  Keep reading. I had two objectives yesterday.  Go visit Haarlem and Anne Frank house.  Seems simple enough.  Seems pretty relaxing.  Nothing is ever simple when you're on a vacation that includes getting to a strange place and finding the building you want to visit. The usual happened when I got off the train from Amsterdam.  Do I go left or right.  I chose right and ended up at the...

Prost - Heineken Experience

Image
I had no plans to start my day early.  My one and only pre-booked ticket at the Heineken Brewery was booked for 11 am.  I woke up at 7 am feeling refreshed because I went to bed at 11:30 the night before.  Oh gloryI  I can bum around in my pajamas, do a bit of work on the NEMO blog, take a shower, get dressed and head out.  I've got plenty of time.  Hah!  Have you ever noticed how time flies when you're using or surfing on your computer?  At nine, I realized I'd better get my butt in gear otherwise I'd be late for the tour. I was out the door by 10 and made it to the brewery with 10 minutes to spare.  I was pretty happy with myself because I took a tram to a different area of town.  I listened to Ms. Google too.  She took me right to the Heineken Brewery for the Heineken Experience.  Again, the tickets to this had to be pre-booked.  I entered the building, the guy took my ticket and directed me to a holding room.  Abo...
